According to Susan, Amy Hoffner has one of the most important roles at the Carolinas Cancer Wellness Program. As the exercise physiologist for the program, she is responsible for ensuring a safe and effective exercise program, tailored to each survivor’s needs.
“My hope is that our survivors will see that exercise doesn’t have to be hard or complicated to reap the benefits. We have fun while working out and I try to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible,” Amy says. I also hope they gain a sense of independence and feel confident to take what they have learned in the 12 weeks and continue after the program ends.”
Described by participants as energetic and fun, Amy tries to make sure that everyone is involved and looks forward to attending. “She never sits still!” said Susan Sullivan, program participant. “She works so hard to make the program work for everyone.”
Amy’s favorite part of the program is getting to know the participants. “I love learning about their lives, families and hearing their unique story. I love helping others and try to remind myself each and every day of all the things I have to be thankful for.”
